Hiking for PTSD research
Still to go
Hiking 2,300 kilometers
Walking from the Holland Hook (Hoek van Holland) to Nice in three months: this summer, Swiss based doctor Jana Werner is walking the entire long-distance GR5 route - crossing five countries and passing hills and plateaus, rivers and lakes and mountains including the French Alps.
Join in the walk
We are supporting Jana's extraordinary achievement by walking alongside her. Not for the entire 2,300 kilometers nor for the whole three months, but joining in for a day, a trail or a solid number of kilometers in our own vicinity.
Hiking for trauma therapy
We are not walking solely for ourselves: we are raising money for trauma research and therapy development. Research suggests that 80% of people experience a potentially traumatic event in their lives, such as an accident, an incident of violence or the sudden loss of a loved one. This can have enduring, long-term effects. Sometimes, these events can even lead to mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression or anxiety.
Treatment for everyone
While there are effective trauma-focused therapies available, access remains limited for many. That is why trauma experts from Amsterdam UMC are joining forces with experts in Portugal and other international researchers, in search of a new promising, cost-effective treatment intervention that can be made readily available worldwide. The key ingrediente being group hiking in nature.
Participate: every step counts
